Eco-toilet Kokoda                                                               Orangutans of Indonesia

For years, No Roads has been helping local communities around the world through employment, training and local infrastructure development. We would tell people about these projects and without a doubt, every person would respond with "I would love to do something like that!".

Well, now you'll have your chance.

In 2009, No Roads Expeditions ran Community Expeditions to Kalimantan - Borneo - Indonesia to help save the endangered Orangutans of Borneo. We also ran eco toilet expeditions to the famous Kokoda Track, installing these much needed toilets to help save PNG's pristine eco system. These trips still have the same adventurous nature to them but we have added a community based project as part of the trip. Usually the community component adds an extra day to the itinerary and the price of the trip is no different to any of our other trips (thus you are not paying for the "privilege" to help out a community).

In 2010 we are building on these projects.

Again in 2010, we are raising funds for the Australian Orangutan Project (AOP) who help preserve the eco system of Borneo for the endangered Orangutans. We will also be raising funds for Safeguard, a team of paramiltary Rangers that patrol the Tanjung Puting National Park arresting poachers and illegal loggers. This trip is leaving in May 2010.

In 2010, we will continue the great work so far of installing eco toilets along the Kokoda Track. This project will be split into two. The first will build the superstructure that houses the toilet as well as the occupant. This is a great part of the project, as you will be working hand in hand with locals, constructing the building, weaving mats for walls, digging holes and at the end of it, you will see a building that will be an eco toilet. The second part of the project will be installing the Rotaloo toilet, ensuring it is placed correctly within the superstructure and then "commissioning" it. Both are great parts of a great project. This project will be run in conjunction with an Australian Led Kokoda Expedition in the months from May 2010 to September 2010. If interested, click on the dates with Eco Toilet installation next to it to join the Toilet Team.
