The plight of the Orangutan is still unknown. Some are optimistic of its survival while others believe they only have a handful of years left in the wild. There are 2 species of Orangutan remaining, the Sumatran and the Bornean Orangutan. Through the expeditions we offer, No Roads Expeditions supports the work of the Australian Orangutan Project (AOP) that has been chartered to protecting the environment and thus the lives of both species of Orangutan.
No Roads Expeditions runs several trips to see the Borneo Orangutans in the Tanjung Puting National Park and the Sumatran Orangutan in Gunung Leuser National Park. In Borneo your home for several days will be our wonderful river boat or klotok. You will be taken deep into the National Park to visit several feeding stations as well as release areas. You will not only see wild and reintroduced Orangutans but also Proboscis Monkeys, Agile Gibbons, Hornbills and more. We will also stay at Rimba lodge for one night and have dinner on the river under the stars. It is a magical place to be.
In Sumatra we will explore the Gunung Leuser National Park via elephant at Tangkahan and then by foot, overnighting in the jungle near Bukit Lawang. The terrain here is very different to Borneo. High mountains and wild rivers characterize the area with a wonderful assortment of wildlife from Orangutans, elephants, Thomas Leak monkeys, Gibbons, wild fowl and more.
By joining one of our trips, a portion of your expedition fee will be donated to the AOP.
These are great trips for adults as well as children of all ages.
