In 2009, the No Roads Expedition Foundation, established the International Porters Exchange Program.

This Program helps Porters from around the world,  to meet each other, in each others work environment. These meetings will help facilitate the following:

  • Create a global brother and sisterhood of Porters
  • The sharing of experiences between these Porters
  • Enable Porters to travel to parts of the world they would otherwise not have the opportunity to visit
  • For Porters to experience cultures other than their own
  • Enable Porters to learn new skills and pick up ideas from other that can be used in their own work environment.

In June 2009, Terrance David from PNG, flew to Indonesia as our first Exchange Porter. Terrance trekked the awesome Gunung Rinjani, met other Porters along the way and liased with local management staff on how they operate in Indonesia.

Terrance returned a man full of experiences and a mind full of ideas for PNG. He was overjoyed by the experience and felt it was a once in a life time opportunity.

In 2010, the IPEP will be sending one Porter from Indonesia to walk the Kokoda Track and another PNG Porter back to Indonesia to either trek Rinjani or Kayak the Komodo Islands.
