School Expeditions

KTA_Operators_Logo_Website_The Kokoda Trail is a significant part of Australia's history. It is an integral part of our National Identity. Our role in the League of Nations prior to the WWII and the part we played in the ultimate defeat of Imperial Japan has shaped how we see ourselves and how the world perceived us in its aftermath.

As such, walking the Kokoda Trail is an experiential activity that enables students to actually feel what Australian soldiers endured during the campaign and places them and the events that unfolded into a real context. Australia and its place in the world is deeply understood by students and teachers alike. By placing students on the Track, students will not only learn about history but will start to understand themselves on a level that is difficult to simulate any other way.

Students will understand their limitations, they will learn about team work, relating to others under stressful situations, immerse themselves in another culture and lifestyle and witness the charity and patience of our local team first hand.

For young Australians, walking the Kokoda Trail will assist them in developing into more mature and responsible adults. They will draw on the experience back in Australia when life gets tough during examinations and when they transfer from school life to working life.

No Roads Expeditions has taken many students across the Kokoda Trail. We understand the needs of the students as well as the needs of the schools and the parents that send them.

We have a comprehensive Risk Management Policy that covers all eventualities including Medical Evacuation, Liability and Insurance issues as well as Australian Government warnings and registration.

While many schools do walk the entire Kokoda Trail, several have also created their own itineraries that include walking half the Track and then spending 2-4 days in a traditional village as guests. These village stays enable students to understand how others live, the difficulties they face as subsistence inhabitants in an environment that while beautiful can also be unforgiving. We currently have 2 Village Stay options:

1/ A Village Stay in Kagi which is situated along the Kokoda Track
2/ Walk the Full Kokoda Track and 2 Day Village Stay

We also run the Full Kokoda Track for Schools overnighting in villages along the way. Click here for more information.

If you are interested in taking your school across the Kokoda Track, please feel free to contact us to talk about all the options. We are available for information sessions with students, parents, teachers and school boards so that you are fully prepared for your adventure.

Some schools that we have taken across the Kokoda Track include Patterson River Secondary College, Carnegie School, Griffith Secondary College, Benalla College, Caloundra College, Xavier College and more.
