Hotham to Falls Creek Trek
3 day, 2 night hike
Transport, tents, food etc provided
Highly experienced and qualified guides
Stunning alpine views of Mount Feathertop and the Bogong High Plains
The Victorian high country immediately inspires images of open rolling hills, old stockman huts and wild horses running free. The Alpine National Park is one of Victoria's most pristine and beautiful environments, and this wild land in between two busy mountain resorts is ripe to be explored.
Over this 3 day hike, we'll see Victoria's oldest cattleman hut, camp in pristine locations, enjoy endless views and chances to see classic high country wildlife.
While this hike is not extremely demanding, there is a one significant climb but we will have plenty of time to take it at a leisurely pace. Guests will be required to carry their own personal clothing and equipment including matress and sleeping bag. This should all fit into a 40L back pack and weight less than 12kgs. Tents, cooking equipment and food will all be carried by your guides!
Day 1: Meet in Melbourne (or Bright) and drive to Mount Hotham. Start hike.
Day 2: Bogong high plains and head towards Cope Hut.
Day 3: Australian Alps Walking Track to Falls Creek Resort. Drive back to Melbourne.
This expedition costs $660* twin share, ex Melbourne. Note our Father and Son Trek is $1100. This is for 2 people. If you have another son, no problem this is an extra $500 and can be added after the initial booking.
Note: Why not stay a few days longer in Bright, it is a superb location and a perfect place to spend the warmer months of Victoria.
*minimum number of bookings required, see ts & c's for full details.
Meet in Melbourne's north early morning for a gear check and briefing. Drive to Mount Hotham via a coffee and snack stop in Bright. We'll have lunch at the trail head before hiking down to our campsite in the valley.
Day 2 begins with a our only significant climb, hiking up out of the valley to gain the Bogong high plains and head towards Cope Hut. Once we gain the high plains, the walking becomes easy and we can enjoy the spectaular alpine scenery. Today is our best chance of seeing wild brumbies running free.
Continuing along the Australian Alps Walking Track, we'll visit Wallace hut, Victoria's oldest cattleman hut, and hike along an aqueduct then a high ridge into Falls Creek Resort. The drive back to Melbourne will have opportunities to stop along the way at various breweries, wineries and eateries!
